Professor Paul Winyard

Paul Winyard runs a leading experimental medicine research group in Exeter, UK. He has been Professor of Experimental Medicine at the University of Exeter Medical School (formerly Peninsula Medical School) since 2002 and previously held the same title at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry, London. Paul was also a Visiting Professor at the University of California, San Francisco (2000-2001).

His research interests centre on the role of oxidative/nitrative stress and redox signalling in human chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and he has published over 300 original research papers and reviews in this field. Paul’s research has been supported by funding agencies including the UK’s Medical Research Council (MRC), other UK Research Councils, the European Union, charities and industry.

Paul is a co-inventor in relation to ten patent families and over the last five years, he has begun to extend the applications of his analytical biochemistry expertise in the area of redox biology/pathology, to facilitate a better understanding of redox pathology and inflammation in other chronic human diseases.
